Healing; Your Greatest Superpower
We as humans have some great assets. We are brilliant- sometimes to our own demise. In my opinion, our greatest superpower is the ability to heal. Our bodies have an innate response to fix what is broken, or make do with what we have available. When our bodies are consistently forced to make do, we head down a path of chronic imbalance and/or inflammation.
Our body will give us a cue, also known as a symptom, that surely should not be ignored. We have options here- a band-aid approach to hush the cue or digging a little bit to find where the imbalance began. Checking in with yourself daily is a great way to listen to anything your body might need. A few signs from our bodies that we might try to listen for can be tiredness leading to exhaustion, joint stiffness or pain, bloating, burping, gas, and loose stools or possibly lacking stool. Using pharmaceuticals and supplements to patch ourselves up may look like energy drinks, sleep aids, ibuprofen, antacids, and laxatives. Yes, sometimes even a natural supplement can be a patch.
Inflammation. A word commonly used in the health world, is nothing more than our body's innate reaction to repair something. Although uncomfortable at times, it's actually a great tool we all have. Inflammation can be redness and swelling around a wound or soreness from a tough workout, both working on repair. It can also look like high blood pressure or autoimmune responses, both attempting to repair and rebalance with what it has available. Chronic states of inflammation can lead to rapid aging and dis-ease of ourselves.
Our lives are full of mentally, emotionally, physically, and/or time consuming things. Tending to a home, caring for others, and social activities to name a few. We as humans can be stubborn as we know our bodies are great at trudging through. We can still get most all of the things done running on an inflamed system, but for how long?
Giving our bodies the environment and tools it needs for healing is our first step. As I have talked about in previous posts, some of the most simple and cost-effective ways to support a healthy body are often the most challenging to implement. In a world full of screens, processed foods, and addictive paths to quick satisfaction, it is important to be an outlier and advocate for yourself.
